T O P I C R E V I E WZerepwhat sort of music do you guys like? what groups, bands or singers? RandallI like almost everything. Not a fan of rap or hip hop, though. ------------------"Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca ClarkQueenofSheebaSorry to gross everyone out, but I'm a classical person!! I don't have much exerience with non- classical music, except maybe Celtic. Grieg, Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Hindemith, Telemann, Correlli, Britten, Barber, the guy who wrote the Enigma Variations, and Dolores Keane are all good. Do I need to broaden my musical tastes? For some reason I think System of a Down is cool, as is Eminem. I like sampling ethnic music- tango, African stuff, country. I guess I can listen to anything. ------------------ No longer mourn for me when I am dead Than you shall hear the surly sullen bell Give warning to the world that I am fled From this vile world, with vilest worms to dwell. -ShakespeareRandallClassical is cool! ------------------"Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca ClarkZerepeveryone's tastes are different. I don't really know alot about classical music, except the pieces I heard in music class. I always prefered the more 'dramatic' pieces...QueenofSheebaZ, it's great you have music classes! I do too, but many American kids don't. Music is important to a well- rounded education. ------------------ No longer mourn for me when I am dead Than you shall hear the surly sullen bell Give warning to the world that I am fled From this vile world, with vilest worms to dwell. -ShakespeareZerepwhy not?trippyshti love (generally in order of listening frequency) psychedelic rock from the 60s/70s like cream ,blind faith , hendrix, the doors ,grateful dead, pink floyd, some stones, led zep, the who, beatles, SPIRIT, TRAFFIC, dylan, donovan, jefferson airplane, a mixed group of rock-folk such as NICK DRAKE, norah jones, leonard cohen, rufus wainwright, ellen mcilwaine, mazzy star LUNA- one of the BEST bands out nowsuch hippie favs as dave matthews band, phish, rusted root, and odd jam bands like ekoostik hookah and medeski martin and woodglam rockers/ NY 70s punkers including david bowie, t rex, iggy pop, alice cooper/ ny dolls, television, talking heads, patti smith (although she and the heads belong closer to the top), ramones, as well as the big papa of ny punk: the velvet underground50s 60s 70s funky black music like sly and the family stone, booker t and the mgs, james brown and the likeearly 90s alternative nirvana, smashing pumpkins, blind melon, green day, weezerpearl jam, radio head, sublimeoh yeah, also tom petty, u2, kinks, carsi also like 50s and 60s doo-woppy songs, swing music (but not big band) blue grass, old school rap like de la soul and artistic rap like aesop rock, and i definately have an interest in blues, jazz, and classical, i'm just not very well versed in any of these. did someone say taurus' love music RandallI'm a hippie! ------------------"Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clarktrippysht Zerepwow typ, now there's someone with taste. I don't like 80s music, I think 70 are great tho'. You like Pink Floyd? U2 are class. Jewel, tom cochrane... for some reason I thought slade were catchy..? the wallflowers, del amitri, bryan adams(a bit sappy but still good)the eagles, bruce springsteen, mick jagger (solo), there's lots more but I'll have to go check... QueenofSheebaZerep- you didn't know, but the American public school system is in shreds. While there are a few good public schools in the wealthier areas, most schools are under- staffed and under- financed. They can't afford to hire good teachers or buy textbooks, let alone buy instruments or music. There just isn't any funding for schools in federal budgets. This means kids who can't afford to go to a private school have less chance than ever of getting a real education and of going someplace. It's a pathetic situation."It will be a great day when our schools have all the money they need and the Air Force has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber." - bumper sticker------------------"Those who live by the sword, die by the sword." - AnonymousAphroditeI really love "Gran Partita" and "Elvira Madigan" by Mozart.Gustav Mahler's pieces are exceptional as well. AphroditeZerepthat bad eh? well here, it's great, we have enough to travel with schoolsQueenofSheebaYes, Europeans are luckey. Aphrodite- I think Mahler is a bit too reliant on fanfares from the brass, but he did produce some really cool music- the third movement of his first symphony, for example. And that figure in The Titan's firt movement- .... So simple, so cool!Right now I am listening to a cd called "On the Banks of the Helicon." It's very Elvish. QueenofSheebaSorry that little music layout didn't work!
